BW150 is a tannin based formulation used for controlling scale and corrosion in boiler systems.
There are two distinctive application areas:-
• Closed hot water systems e.g. MPHW installations
• Steam locomotives
Can prevent scale in the presence of hardness slippage due to softener malfunction.
• Easy to control and test for product
• Inhibits the formation of scale
• Low alkalinity content to allow for increased cycling in the boiler
• Provides control of corrosion due to oxygen in the water
HOW MUCH TO USE
Precise requirements vary according to water quality. As a guide, for a closed system containing raw water an initial dose of 10 litres per 10m3 of system volume is recommended.
Maintenance treatment depends on the make up rate; as a guide use 0.5 –1 litre per 10m3 to achieve the correct Tannin index.
An initial dose of 5 litres per m3 is suggested. Maintenance treatment depends on the operating pattern of the locomotive. As a guide use 250-500ml per m3 of make up
TESTING AND CONTROL
The product should be controlled to maintain the following levels:
pH: 10-12 Tannin Index: 12-16 in closed systems. Then as stated) plus for Steam Locomotives it is recommended to maintain the Tannin Index at 6-9.
TDS: According to Boiler Water BS recommendations
Appearance: Dark brown liquid
Composition: Blend of natural organic polyphenol polymers in aqueous solution.
Specific gravity : 1.05 – 1.15
pH: 4.5 – 6.0
Freezing Point: 0ºC
Boiling Point: 100ºC
HANDLING AND STORAGE
BW150 is a low toxicity, non-caustic, non-volatile liquid. The product is safe to handle and store but normal precautions should be taken as with chemical handling. Wear gloves and goggles. Consult Material Safety Data Sheet for further information.
