BW75 is a tannin based formulation for controlling scale and corrosion in boiler
systems. There are two distinctive areas:-
• Closed hot water systems e.g. MPHW installations
• Steam locomotives
• Easy to control and test for product
• Inhibits the formation of scale
• pH adjusted to provide increased alkalinity
• Provides control of corrosion due to oxygen in the water
HOW MUCH TO USE
Precise requirements vary according to water quality. As a guide, for a closed system containing raw water, an initial dose of 1 litre per m3 of system volume is recommended.
Maintenance treatment depends on the make up rate; as a guide use 0.5—1 litre per 10 m3 to achieve the correct Tannin Index.
An initial dose of 5 litres per m3 is suggested. Maintenance treatment depends on the operating pattern of the locomotive. As a guide, use 250—500ml per m3 of make up.
TESTING AND CONTROL
The product should be controlled to maintain the following levels:
pH: 10-11 Tannin Index : 12-16 in closed systems. Then as stated.
For steam locomotives it is recommended to maintain the Tannin Index at 6—9.
TDS: According to Boiler Water BS recommendations
Appearance: Dark brown liquid
Composition: Blend of natural polymeric dispersants in aqueous solution with alkalinity adjusted.
Specific gravity: 1.05 – 1.15 pH: 9—10
Freezing Point: 0ºC
Boiling Point: 100ºC
HANDLING AND STORAGE
BW75 is a moderately alkaline, non-volatile liquid. The product should be handled with care avoiding contact with skin and eyes. Normal precautions should be taken with chemical handling. Wear gloves and goggles. Wash affected areas with copious quantities of water. Consult MSDS for further information.
BW75 is available in 25 litre containers only.
